What a fabulous experience it was to design AR Homes latest Lake Keowee model home dubbed the Palmetto. The Palmetto’s design style would best be described as a modern Nantucket exterior elegantly paired with a sleek transitional interior. Interiors AR Homes was fortunate to be involved in every detail of this 5,148 square foot home. Lots of thought went into every decision and selection to achieve our desired look. Interior design is truly a process of puzzling together inspiration, aesthetics, and functionality. Below we explore some of the design elements that makeup this stunning Lake Keowee home.

Interior Design Elements - The Palmetto at Keowee Springs

Kitchen, Great Room, & Dining Room

While the great room, kitchen and dining areas are all located in one large open concept area, each has its own defined space. They comfortably flow together with a cohesive style, color and design. The kitchen is uniquely located between the great room and the dining area. All 3 spaces offer spectacular views of the lake and porch access, so careful consideration went into the floor plan and furniture layouts. One fabric swatch inspired the color pallet of neutrals, slate blue, and amber that are carried throughout this entire space. Just last month, York wallcovering featured amber as the 2023 color of the year, so the home is right on trend. While there are many unique details in this home, the fireplace in the great room is the show stopper. The linear gas fireplace is located on an entire wall designed with a combination of stone, tile and honed granite. It truly grounds the room and sets the tone for the entire home.

Lower Level Wet Bar

While the main level bar is elegant and refined, the lower-level bar lets loose. It is definitely the heart of the rec room which boast a pool table, game table, large living space and 3 TVs. The bar features a large sliding glass window that opens up to outside bar seating. The rusted metal ceiling in the bar is truly one-of-a-kind.  It was the first element selected for this room and it inspired all other design decisions such as colors, tiles, and art for this space.  This area of the home exudes a more relaxed vibe which makes it a perfect place to relax and kick back with friends and family.

Functional Spaces

Interiors AR Homes believes functionality should be a priority of every interior design project. This home features several spaces that are truly catered to the functionality of the home. While these spaces were definitely more utilitarian at inception, that did not stop us from being creative as we designed them. Near the garage entry there is a home delivery center, or as we have coined it, the “Amazon room”. This room can be accessed from the exterior with a coded key pad for all of your deliveries. It even has a refrigerator for your grocery deliveries and a rolling cart to easily get your packages into the home. This room can be locked from the inside of the home, eliminating any security issues. There is also back kitchen, which is also known as a scullery, that provides a second oven, sink, dishwasher and more counter space. This conveniently located second kitchen sets the home up perfectly for entertaining. Again, no detail was spared in the design of this space and we opted to carry the same finishes as the main kitchen into scullery. Lastly is the lake room, which is located on the lower level and can be accessed from the path down to the dock. This space is the perfect spot to prep for a day on the dock or boat. There is a custom designed bench and fun blue cabinets for all of your storage needs… think sunscreen, life jackets, fishing gear and towels. There is also a second washer and dryer in this space for all of those wet towels at the end of the day.

Architectural Theme & Outdoor Living

Outdoor Living Area

While the interiors are spectacular, this home is all about the lake and the outdoor living. The organic rock water feature that we selected provides a bubbling ambiance for the expansive porches on both levels. The large sliding glass doors open to expand the feel of the outdoor living. We sourced a custom-made bed swing from Twenty Eight Eleven, a local Greenville company, for the lower level which makes a perfect spot for reading or napping. There are 2 fabulous seating areas which are both grounded by a stone fireplace. A custom Danver outdoor kitchen is conveniently located near both the outside and inside dining tables.

Overall Architectural Theme

Careful consideration went into every aspect of this home from the exterior elevations, floor plans, and finish selections down to the furnishing, fabrics, and accessories. The lakefront location definitely played a pivotal role in our design process. We wanted to achieve a transitional feel with both the wow-factor and the functionality to make the home truly livable. To us, that is the sign of a truly good design.
